Where to Study in Tallinn

So exams are coming up and you are tired of studying at home and staring at the same four walls? I am completely with you. So here are some places in Tallinn that make studying a little more fun and motivating.

  1. TTU Library

Of course, if you are a student of TTU you know about our spacious modern library. Not only is it  spacious and modern, but it is incredibly beautiful with five floors and gigantic windows making up the walls. Although the first floor can get a bit noisy, the rest are quiet, and if the noise bothers you still, you can also book private or group study rooms inside. I love studying here because not only is it right next to the dorms, but there is also a cafeteria downstairs where you can take well-deserved study breaks. Delicious cake and coffee is always a good motivation to get some reading done 😉

Opening hours (extended from Nov 28 -Dec 15)

Monday-Thursday: 8:30 – 21:00

Friday: 8:30 -20:00

Saturday: 11:00-16:00

2. Tallinn’s University’s Late Night Study Room

As you can tell by the title, this place is perfect for late night studies because unlike the TTU library, it is open until 11 pm on weekdays and also open for some time on Sundays. Although smaller and not as modern, the Tallinn University study room provides a cozy environment to get things done before your deadlines. Though you can enter without a problem with your Estonian ID card, if you are not from the EU and have a TRP, you need to get a Tallinn University library card from their main library in Rävala 10. The study room is located in Narva int 29.

3. MEKTORY

Mektory is TTU’s Innovation and Business center with rooms initially used for meetings and workshops . However, some of them can also be used for studying. They have a range of rooms from Australian and Indian themed to one with swings and grass. Most of the time, you do not need to book beforehand and can just walk in and ask for an available room. Although I love studying here, it’s sometimes hard not to get too cozy and forget to get things done because of how comfortable it can get. There is also a kitchen-like area in the hallway with cute mugs and a coffee machine. The rooms are usually open until 8 pm, but the staff can sometimes be flexible and let you stay for longer.

4. Caffeine

If you are a coffee lover who doesn’t mind bit of noise, Caffeine is the perfect place for you. They are scattered all over Tallinn, so you can easily find one close to your house. There’s good WiFi, nice couches, and delicious cakes and coffee. Most of Caffeines’ are open until 9 pm.

5 .TTU SOC building

Once the TTU library closes at 8, you can always finish your last minute cramming in the SOC building. As you have already probably noticed, there are many tables and chairs in the hallway where you can sit, and with a bit of noise, get things done. It’s not the conventional place to study, but there are coffee machines to keep you awake and going, so I always prefer to finish there before getting home. The SOC building is open until 10 pm.

These are all for now, but feel free to share if you have any favorite study spots in Tallinn, and good luck with the end of the semester 😉

The corner directly above the entrance to the U06 building: nice view to the forest next to it, coffee machine three steps away and comfortable sofas. The best hidden spot of TTU 🙂
